What is the hourly wage?
The minimum wage of a trained cleaner results from the collective agreement. In Austria this has been € 10.10 gross since 1st January 2022. Despite the minimum wage, the hourly wage varies between € 7.20 and € 11.68 gross, depending on work experience and qualifications. On average, a domestic helper earns € 9.89 per hour.

These values are based on a national average. Please note that this is the gross hourly wage. This means that social security contributions are to be deducted from it. Therefore, the net hourly wage that your domestic help receives in the end is a little lower.

Regular cleaning is already possible with a small budget
How expensive it is to have your flat cleaned depends mainly on the size of the flat and the tasks of the domestic helper.
If your cleaning person comes weekly, you can roughly calculate half an hour per 20 sqm. For an 80 sqm flat with kitchen and bathroom, you can therefore assume 2 hours of work. This time is sufficient for standard tasks such as vacuuming, mopping and cleaning the bathroom. If you also want the domestic helper to clean windows, tidy up or do the laundry, you will have to allow a little more time.
Example
For a cleaning job of two hours with a gross hourly wage of € 12, you must therefore calculate 2 x € 12 and thus come to € 24 per cleaning job per week. The cleaning of your flat costs you € 96 gross per month and € 1,152 per year (calculated with 48 working weeks).

You can insure and pay for your household help by a service check. You can get these checks at post offices, tobacconists and
online.
Likewise, you can freely choose the value of the checks at the time of purchase - up to a maximum of €100.
The domestic help gets the amount of their received checks paid to their account.
Important: Payment by check is possible only on the basis of marginal employment!
Would you have known? You can claim the expenses for the service checks in your tax return.
You pay for accident insurance directly when you purchase a service check. For this, 2% is added to the value of the check.
Example: If you buy a check worth € 10, as an employer you pay € 10,20. Thus, the accident insurance is already included.
