In Austria, there is no provision for direct payment of domestic help via long-term care insurance. There is no standard model whereby privately organised domestic help can be automatically paid or reimbursed via long-term care insurance.
Care allowance as support
If a person in need of care has a recognised care requirement (65 hours per month or more), care allowance can be applied for. The care allowance is paid twelve times a year in arrears – tax-free and without deductions for health insurance.
The care allowance is freely available. This means that it can also be used to pay for domestic help. However, there is no direct billing or reimbursement of costs by the care insurance fund. The person in need of care or their relatives are responsible for the payment themselves.
Applying for care allowance
Care allowance can be applied for at your pension insurance institution (PVA) or, depending on your insurance, at other institutions. The amount depends on the amount of care required and is divided into seven levels. A corresponding application and an assessment of the care required by medical professionals are required.
Our note
If you find domestic help through Haushaltshilfe24 and receive care allowance, you can finance this support from the care allowance – however, direct billing to the care insurance fund or automatic cost coverage by public authorities is not possible.
